Dr. Benito Baranda is the CEO of America Solidaria International, a Chilean foundation active in 13 countries in Latin America. He is one of the social leaders in Chile, calling for the business sector, government and civil society to confront poverty.
Dr. Baranda has participated in presidential advisory commissions in Chile on matters of poverty childhood issues, educational programs, and civil society participation during the terms of Presidents Frei, Lagos, Bachelet, and Piñera.
Dr. Baranda was the social director of the Hogar de Cristo foundation for 20 years and Benito is a member of the boards of directors of the following foundations: Superación de la Pobreza (Overcoming Poverty), Itau-Social in Chile, INVICA, and Colunga y Fernando Gonzalez.
He is also a member of the Governing Board of the Catholic University of Temuco, and directs the Cidevi Foundation.
Dr. Baranda studied clinical psychology at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, has a Masters Degree in Marriage and Family Sciences from the Pontifical Lateran University of Rome, and a doctorate in Sociology from the Comillas Pontifical University in Madrid. He was also a recipient of the Eisenhower Exchange Fellowships program in Philadelphia.
